No More Big Three?
A stat came across me today that Toyota is gunning to be number 1 worldwide in car sales. Based on what I have seen in sales numbers product upgrades and the overall mood of the auto industry this does not suprise me. Currently the Big 3 still consist of GM (General Motors) Ford and DaimlerChrysler in that order. However this Big 3 in terms of US sales now has Toyota as number 3 and closing in on Ford. In 2007 Toyota could overtake Ford to be number 2 in US sales. Whatch out there Ford. In 2006 GM held onto the worldwide title with 9.09 million vehicles sales compared to Toyota s forcasted 8.8 million vehicles in 2006. Toyota is claiming that in 2007 it will sell 9.34 million vehicles and possibly be number 1 worldwide for the first time. In 2006 some 67 million vehicles were sold worldwide with more to be sold this year in 2007. What happen to the Big 3 ? I heard someone say that from now on they will be refered to as Detroit Automakers going forward. I guess I could agree except for the now strong roots outside of Detroit that Chrysler has. I personally would vote for American Automakers and have it only include Ford and GM. No matter what you call them and who you include it appears that the Big 3 in the USA will now include an other .
