Acura vs. Porsche Sales
On March 1 2006 Acura released their monthly sales numbers and they were a whopping 14 146 units sold. In the event you didnt know the Acura lineup consists of the TSX TL MDX NSX RL and the RSX. For Acura the year over year numbers are down 14.15% after a record breaking year. As this appears to be a big number Honda sold some 25 000+ Honda Civics in the month of February alone.
February Sales: Acura
14 146 - 2006
16 151 - 2005
15 155 - 2004
Acura Sales: Estimated $495 531 000
Acura TL 5 169
Acura MDX 4 310
Acura TSX 2 674
Acura RSX 1271
Acura RL 712
Acura NSX 10
Early in March Porsche released their February sales numbers as well. Porsche was able to move a total of 2 700 vehicles in the month of February. Porsche year over year is up 20% compared to February 2005 sales figures. Now while this number is quite shy of the Acura numbers Porsche was able to move an estimated value nearly half of what Acura was able to move. Porsche s estimated sales $215 478 000 compared to an estimated $495 531 000 in sales of Acura appear closer then simply the sheer number of vehicles sold.
To have such a strong sales performance in our sports car model lines is very impressive said Peter Schwarzenbauer PCNA President and CEO. It is also remarkable given the difficult economical environment as well as the harsh weather that hit our major Northeast markets last month. While the President of Porsche North America points out the harsh winter in the Northeast the lingering problems in the South from Katrina and other hurricanes seems to have had no long term effect (at least not yet) on the more expensive Porsche vehicles.
Porsche Sales: Estimated $215 478 000
Porsche Cayenne 917
Porsche 911 902
Porsche Cayman 538
Porsche Boxster 334
* Note: Porsche sales include Canada and US. Acura only includes US.
I find it interesting how many vehicles Porsche is able to sell and how few Acura is. When thinking about the branding and sponsorships that Porsche has in place it is quite mind numbing. For what is essentially a low number of vehicles sold each month they are able to do quite a bit.
