World Baseball Classic
The World Baseball Classic is a great idea I guess. I m not quite sure what the winner gets maybe a statue a ball or maybe just a pat on the back. I am sure that they really arent the best team or country in the world. How can you crown a team the best in the world based on only 8 games and from 16 countries. Last I recalled there were some 160+ countries on this planet yet only 16 are in this so called Classic. Another question I pose is why have it now? The players have been off all summer working out and training but for the most part havent been in games or warmed up as they are come All Star break. One writer suggested or noted that it HAD been suggested that they have it at the All Star break but there would be problems having it then as well. If you are in the hunt for the Title would you really let your star players go play in some Classic for 3 weeks and then let the rest of the team sit around? How much longer would the season be? What about the teams and players that dont play what do they get? I thought that once you were out of college spring breaks were over. Overall I just dont get the World Baseball Classic and how it can have the World or Classic in it. Based on some of the rules - pitchers can only pitch 65 pitches first round 80 the next and 90 the final round Im not sure this is baseball. How about the rule where the game ends after 14 innings? Or the rule where if the Umpire feels that neither team or maybe its if a single team doesnt have the pitching staff to continue he can delay the game until the next day (just heard about this one today). So based on all of this my more interest in how my team is doing in Spring Training and who we are signing I just dont see why I should care about this Classic.
